We bought a Florida Beach House sight unseen! You may remember June was a crazy time for us… Jason had his biking accident on Father’s Day and his father passed away just a few weeks later. At the same time, we were buying this property so it was chaos!
I had made one trip to the house for 30 minutes during the inspection. I took tons of pics and videos and had to do all the planning and hiring of contractors based on those and people recommending subs.
We hired some painters right off the bat to go in and paint the walls white. Yes, I know, white is not my usual paint color but we want the space to feel brighter and bigger and I need a fresh palette to start with.
Then it was time for my first trip down. Jason is still recovering from a broken hip from his accident so my mom and my dear friend Dorrie Buccafusca of Simple Southern Charm went with me.
Dorrie is an interior designer (and yes, she works virtually) . She helped me with my laundry room and my master bedroom.
Funny thing is Dorrie has helped me with many of the projects in my home but I had never met her in real life before! Thankfully, I know her well enough to know she wasn’t going to kill me lol! So I felt comfortable both meeting her for the first time and having her stay with us.
Friends, we had 72 HOURS in Florida and we went to work! In 72 hours, the three of us got rid of 95% of what was left by the previous owners, replaced all the furniture, got all new appliances installed, got a new mirrored wall put in to the ceiling (blog post coming!), we replaced the water heater, replaced the bathroom vanity and faucet, replaced everything in the kitchen (dishes, pans etc), hauled off truckloads of trash, got bids for blinds and countertops, replaced most of the lights, replaced most of the fans, and decorated the heck out of the place.
Florida Beach House Excitement & Exhaustion!
We preordered a lot of furniture to be there. (note: I did a podcast episode that you can listen to HERE on what a cool biz idea this is plus several other great biz ideas I have seen in Florida!)
Dorrie had sent me a couple of inspiration boards and I gave her the color palette. I know a lot of people on 30A decorate with white, and if you know me, you know I am sooo not a white decor girl. So we’re essentially muting down the colors of our home here in Kansas City.
Here are some after pictures from trip #1. How we accomplished all of this in 72 hours is beyond me but our beach home is already looking so much better! Stay tuned for trip #2 just a week later!
Out with the old, in with the new!
