I never thought I’d have a bike as beach house wall decor…but here I am using a bike as beach house wall decor!
In the area that our home is in, in Florida, there is a huge culture of biking. Because the traffic around there can get really bad, whether you live there or are there on vacation, renting bikes is the easiest way to get around.
Making a bike beach house wall decor
We rent bikes every time we go down to the beach house, and they’re super easy to come by…and it’s super easy to find one used for purchase as well. One day, I had remembered seeing a bike as wall decor in Chalene Johnson’s house on Instagram and it came to me…it would be the PERFECT decor for the master bedroom in the beach house.
I got my hands on one that was going to fit perfectly, and to the amusement of all around me, I spray painted it in the parking lot of our condo.
Jason, Easton, Ava and a friend all worked really hard to get it hung…and they’re troopers, because this thing was not easy to get up on the wall.
We put a wicker basket on it with some flowers in it that I got at World Market. Jason actually sawed the basket and bike seat in half so it would sit flush against the wall . We also had to saw off one of the bike handles/basket and a pedal. it still bows out a bit from the wall, but the flowers totally make up for the bowing. It all evens out!
I used some good ‘ol fashioned spray paint to get the job done. I did learn one really interesting thing… If you spray paint rubber, like on the tires, the rubber will actually absorb the paint and the rubber will eventually go back to the original color. So, now every time I go back to the house…the tires are slowly going back to their original color!
