Ok I know talking about drop cloths is not a sexy topic, but seriously, they matter!!
We use drop cloths every day in my business. Like EVERY day. We paint furniture on top of drop cloths. We use them in client’s homes. We use them to protect floors and protect carpets!
In the past, we just used moving pads. But moving pads slip on wood. They slide and shift around. They don’t stay in place and they were not made to be used as a drop cloth.
But these drop clothes. These drop clothes that I just tried out are legit!!!!!!!!!!

The back of these canvases are that anti-slip grip material that you’d put under a rug. This makes it perfect for steps, on hardwood, etc.
We had some touch-ups to do on my staircase recently (Mr Magic and our boys have been moving furniture in and out for me and the wall somehow got scuffed up!). This drop-cloth was PERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRFECT to use under our gorilla ladder. If you don’t have a gorilla ladder to use on steps, you are seriously missing out! You can find one HERE.
The ladder did not move, or shift or slide, which is awesome because stairs are hard enough to paint without your drop-cloth sliding on you!
And I love how I could form this drop cloth right to my steps! And that backing on it makes it kinda “grippy”. So it wasn’t going anywhere!
See. It wasn’t loose or a tripping hazard! If you own a painting business or do a lot of painting….. that is so important! This is one of the best painting tips!
I was wishing we had this drop cloth 2 months ago when we were painting this project in a client’s home. It was a huge, slick staircase. The “no-slip backing” would have been perfect for that job!
We are using the 9 x 12 drop clothes which I may mention are huge. Big enough for an entire room. You can find them for sale HERE.
Think of good drop cloths like an investment into your business. Or as an important safety measure if you are a homeowner.
You won’t ever regret using a good one! Plus you will use them for many, many projects to come! One of the best painting tips ever!
Happy painting,
Jen
