And we have a backsplash at last!!!!! No more looking at bare studs! Thank you Lord!!!!!
The funny thing is that the decorative painting company that I owned for 16 years did all of the faux finishes in this house 9 years ago and now I am paying to have our work covered up. lol.
So this was our kitchen before. See the fauxed walls we did years ago and the dark slate backsplash?
I realllllllllllllly wanted to draw attention to the big window and to make the island more of a gathering place.
I loved our kitchen backsplash in the last house, which you can see here. It was a combination of arabesque pattern and a tiny bit of subway tile (if you know me I am not a fan of subway tile). We had worked with the Tile Shop in Shawnee, Kansas on the last kitchen and it went so well I wanted to work with them again.
So here’s what we’ve done in the kitchen so far:
- New {BLUE} Kitchen Island, see here
- Lovely Faux Marble Counters, see here
- Glam Gold Hardware, see here
- Cool new gray walls, see here
Once we made those first kitchen changes, the kitchen felt 20 years younger and 20 pounds lighters. LOL. And I was dreaming of a kitchen backsplash that would really make the unique arched picture window stand out.
So here’s what I picked …
I am obsessed with all things mirror so this should be no surprise to you. It glistens, blings and glitters when the sun and lights hit it. I love it! This tile has Italian carrara marble (which I loved in my last kitchen) with blue moonstone and antique mirror accents.
This tile sample is called “Northbrook w/Mirror and Stone”, which you can see and purchase online here. It could go horizontally or vertically but we wanted for it to make the space look tall and draw the eye up.
So we installed it vertically. Clean lines, yet very shiny and sophisticated!
And the tile installers had to do some fancy pieces to hide the bullnosed walls.
And here is how it turned out!!!! (ignore the white cabinet full of crap and the paper still on the floors! lol)
I’m obsessed with how the tile turned out and can’t say enough good things about working the Tile Shop in Shawnee again on this kitchen. If you are local to Kansas City…. you must go check out their showroom. And we had Flawless Floors in Kansas City do the installation. TOP NOTCH both of them!
I’m a smitten kitten. The tile is just so light and sparkly and it’s like jewelry in my kitchen!
I promise the ENTIRE KITCHEN REVEAL is coming very soon. First we need to install our new glam light fixtures that will match the gold hardware and still keep that “open feeling” and leave the window as the highlight. That post is coming next week!

Why didn’t you carry the tile above the cabinets as well? Install along that whole back wall? What will sit on those cabinets? Just curious ????
I was going to say the same thing!!!
That is stunning. Thanks for sharing.
I love it. Thanks for sharing!
Dear Dr. Wakina, you are the heart and soul of our reunion after divorce, you made our marriage brighter and sweeter like others you have helped via dr.wakinalovetemple@gmail. com after a triumphant love spell. What an incredible supernatural father you are for seeing and healing my wounded heart as promised.
Thanks for bringing back my husband after 14months, words can’t express how gratitude we feel about the tremendous opportunity given to us.
This is gorgeous! I love a good tile backsplash. I just had mine cleaned and it’s amazing how good a nice, clean backsplash makes a kitchen look!
Looks gorgeous. So nice to see some thing other than subway tile for once!
Looks stunning!
I’m curious as to why you didn’t do the entire back wall in mirrored tile as well. I can’t wait to see the finished project.
Nice
