There’s one thing in our kitchen remodel that I haven’t shown you yet … and that is our “new” (aka updated) built-in coffee bar!!
Here is our coffee bar before. We are coffee drinkers and are thrilled that our new house has this built-in space for a dedicated coffee bar! (Take a look at my coffee lover’s gift ideas here if you love coffee too!)
And here is the “after” of the majority of the kitchen after I got my hands on it.
But Mr. Magic really wanted the coffee bar to be different from the rest of the kitchen and to have a look that set it apart.
So we picked out a different countertop for the coffee bar. The counter is supposed to look like soapstone without all of the upkeep of soapstone. We got it from Miller’s Custom Cabinets in Excelsior Springs, Missouri.
When we were out tile shopping at The Tile Shop for the kitchen, Jason and I found this really cool glass tile (the Tile Shop is where we got this tile and this tile too!).
And this is the mirrored tile that Mr Magic picked out. And he had the great idea of turning the tile vertical just to give it a more interesting look.
Also the old tile in the kitchen had tile on the back wall AND tile on the side wall. This is done in almost every kitchen in Kansas City yet I always hate it when they tile that side wall and I never understand why??? So we had our construction guys fix the sheet rock on the side wall and we opted to only put tile on the very back. We are tile rebels. lol
Here is a progress pic!
We love how it turned out! Different than the rest of the kitchen, yet still fits in!
Also note that we put all of the outlets UNDER the cabinet… which is one of the 6 things that I think every remodel needs. You can read that article HERE.
