Our new home, has two living rooms with fireplaces — both are getting a makeover.
We already started completely redoing the fireplace in the formal living room. Here is the before …
We ripped out (and salvaged) the mantel, added a light colored brick and completely changed this fireplace’s look.
You can find all those details this first stage of our fireplace makeover here.
When I was talking with my friend Chrysy Huff, who owns Restoration Emporium in Kansas City (Listen to my podcast with here here.), I found out her husband Jeff started a brand new reclaimed wood business here in Kansas City. Check him out on Facebook @kcfurnishingco.
He makes beautifully repurposed furniture pieces and decor items out of things like reclaimed wood from train box cars you guys. How cool is that????? I immediately wanted him to help us with our mantel project!
Jeff brought out six samples of the stains out to my home so I could pick a color that I thought matched. Its always best to look at samples in your room first. We laid the stain samples down on the floor next to the brick and I picked the stain closest to my floors and beams in the hearth room and they he went to making it the perfect size!
In his KC Furnishing Co business, Jeff essentially takes salvaged wood and makes it into pieces of furniture, tables, mantels, shelves, etc. I currently have my eye on a huge bookshelf that he made with cargo wood wood and metal piping! It’s glorious!
He even made the custom corbels to go underneath the mantel (which I love so it doesn’t look like the mantel is just floating with no support). I’m absolutely obsessed with it!
I love the close up because it shows the pegs in the train wood.
Stella is a fan of the new formal space! (PS If you love my famous pig art, you can purchase one here. )
Clearly we have not decorated the room at all. But we will get there! I love how this fireplace turned out. It’s so very different than the one in the hearth room and the mantel just makes it!
