I painted it to match the boy’s bathroom vanity.
Can I tell you the mistakes I made so that you don’t do the same?
My darling husband and I had what I like to call “a passionate disagreement” about which came first…..painting the trim or hanging the trim?????
I was on Team “PAINT first”.
He was on Team “HANG first”.
Against my better judgment, I let him win.
So after caulking seams and puttying nail holes…
I needed to tape off the trim. I was scared to tape over the vinyl poster (in retrospect, it would have been fine)….so I slid newspaper under the trim.
That was my big mistake.
Then I painted it Ralph Lauren’s Dressage Red and started to glaze it.
All was lovely until I tried taking off the newspaper and tape…. this is what I got…
And tears. And requires cutting off with a knife.
I KNEW I should have painted the trim BEFORE we hung it. Ggrrrrr……..
After what seemed like 15 hours of tedious-newspaper-shredding-removal….it was done.
And my hubby admitted I was right. And I love that.
And he bought me a new pair of skinny jeans. And I love that more.
Yeah, I pretty much have forgiven him.

This made me laugh so hard, because I did the very same thing TODAY!! π I put newspaper under a mirror frame (between the mirror and frame) then painted, then it dried and I had a miserable time trying to get it off. I feel your pain. π But it turned out fantastic!
Gorgeous! I can not get enough of that red with the glaze! I so wish I had another bathroom to redo!
What a difference! The trim just MADE that Wallhog!
New Skinny jeans make all things right in the world…beautiful job!!
Girl, you are just as cute as a button. It wouldn’t matter what you wore — you would be a doll. Great project. I really love the oversized print — especially now that it’s framed and painted. Too bad it wasn’t painted prior to hanging (DO NOT tell you hubby I just said that–I was teasing. HAHAHA). What matters is that you are still talking to one another. I love my husband, but we simply cannot work on projects together.
New skinny jeans make all things right with the world, only if you can fit in them! Paint first always, touch ups are much easier. Looks wonderful.
Nothing says I Love you like a new pair of skinny jeans. π I think we have all had fights similar to that, but atleast you got a gift out of the deal.
Turned out great in spite of the nightmare!
Great work on what turned out to be a nuisance of a job. I love your wall hog and I love that it matches the vanity.
Show us a pic of your pretty, new, skinny jeans. π
Ah….don’t ya love it when we’re right. (Well…all except the time it took to scrap the newspaper off.) So…show us the skinny jeans.
π
PS. The frame does look gorgeous with the vanity.
Aww, you are so stinkin’ cute!!! And oh yeah, definitely paint the trim before hanging. I just had a gut feeling on that one. And I know nothing about this stuff!
It looks absolutely fabulous!! Go RED!!!
Now, what is it that the glaze does???
Thanks,
~Kolein
I don’t have your talent or experience but I would have wanted it painted BEFORE too. π It looks beautiful…love that color! So sorry you had such a tedious time with the newspaper but glad you got the jeans.

Always good to have an argument so you can make up! Totally worth it all! It’s fab. Fun that you got a pair of jeans out of it too!
I am sooo lovin’ that red! I’m gonna mix up some of my FE S&S and give it a try.
It looks awesome! I love it!
Can I just say how much I love it when a pro painter fesses up to messing up a paint job? You rock. π
The room is gorgeous! Whoever thought red could look that cool. It really does.

The whole time I was reading your last post I kept thinking “Isn’t she gonna paint that trim – Jen keeps nothing plain white, why is she hanging it now?” Love you hubby and glad the man knows when he was wrong π
We’re talking about Hello! SKinny Jeans right? They are worth the tedium. Whoa yeah. And I was a buy my jeans on sale from the GAP. Totally reformed. My husband approves too.
Love that picture of your boys Jen, and great red color!
OMG always paint before and then touch-up! Oh when will our husbands learn to just agree? Please, if you find the secret, let me know π
Such a cool project. I hope the boys love it!
The finish on the trim looks great! Thanks for the newspaper warning, too.
