Lighting is everything, my friends!! And when it comes to the chandelier lighting we chose for Ava’s bedroom and bathroom, there’s a little bit of a funny story behind it.
So, KCTV5 was planning to come to our home to do a segment on decorating kids rooms. You can watch the segment here! Better yet, Mr. Magic helped me record a Facebook Live giving you a behind the scenes look into what goes into a filming a tv segment. Check that out here.
They planned to come on a Monday morning, but here’s the thing… Ava’s bedroom and bathroom lights had been on back order… since JULY!
So, naturally… on Sunday, I panicked. I was a little freaked out thinking the ugly and outdated lighting would be in the shots.
We had to come up with a new plan. All of the other lights in our house are from Best Lighting in Kansas City, but since Ava’s bedroom and bathroom lights were on back order and KCTV5 was going to be here the next day, we had to make a quick trip to Menards.
I’m not a fan of boring can lights in the center of the room. They don’t give off nearly enough light. So, we needed a chandelier for Ava’s room that put off some bling, was cute, and had some spunk to it. It couldn’t really hang down because her loft bed is so tall.
Luckily, we had some GREAT luck at Menards. We were able to find some really fun and pretty chandelier lighting. Since her loft bed is tall, we went with flush-mounted chandeliers. They were PERFECT!
Lighting can totally transform a room!
Don’t they give off such a pretty cast on the walls?!
I always suggest that people invest in really good lights for their home – especially in kids rooms. Adding something with bling to a girl’s room can really make her feel special!
So! Long story short… We were able to prettify her space, even if it was at the last minute.
KCTV5 stood with me in Ava’s bedroom and bathroom and we talked all about decorating for kids rooms – lighting, wallpaper, decor, and more! I used to be anti-wallpaper because I owned a decorative painting company! But wallpaper has truly come a long way over the years! If you’re loving the super fun llama wallpaper and decor in Ava’s room, you can read more about that here.
There you have it, my friends! I hope this story is a good little reminder to avoid panicking when things don’t go as planned. There is almost always something you can do to improvise!

I’m thankful you were able to find some really pretty lights. Love the patterns they leave, too. Too bad, though the original company you ordered from couldn’t deliver. They would’ve gotten some free advertising.
