This is the most requested tutorial from those of you who follow me on Facebook and Instagram! So here it is, my full curly girl hair routine!!!

Some of you may know that a year ago I had a head full of curly hair! And then at the beginning of 2020, I lost half of my hair! Read about my experience here. It was honestly devastating. I was using DevaCurl products and getting DevaCurl cuts, but since losing half of my hair, I started a new routine with new products that I’m showing you today!

Thankfully in the last six months, my hair has seen some MAJOR growth. Part of that growth is because of the new hair products I’ve been using as well as some vitamins and oils I’m using. Find full list  of links to all the products, vitamins, oils, and brushes here on my Hair Loss Journey blog post.

So let’s get into my FULL wash and style curly girl routine!

Step 1:

Brush your hair before getting into the shower. It helps with the stimulation of hair follicles which helps with hair growth.

Right now I’m using the Aveda Dry Remedy Moisturizing Shampoo! It’s for really dry hair and I love how it helps repair the damage from before when I was losing my hair.

Step 2:

Massage the Aveda Dry Remedy Moisturizing Shampoo into your scalp with your fingers for a deep clean. Scalp stimulation is really good for your hair! This shampoo doesn’t bubble a lot, so don’t worry if you don’t see a lot of bubbles! Don’t add a lot of shampoo or it will be really hard to get out!

Step 3:

Brush the Aveda Dry Remedy Moisturizing Conditioner through your hair with a wet brush. It is soooo important that you use a wet brush and not a regular brush for this step! A regular brush will get moldy from the water retention. After a gentle brushing, rinse out the conditioner.

Step 4:

Run a generous amount of Aveda Be Curly Enhancer through your hair. This will help tame the flyaway hairs.

Step 5:

Run a generous amount of Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Jelly Start by flipping your hair upside down and scrunch it in from the bottom. Get another handful of gel and scrunch the sides of your hair. Make sure your hair is still very wet while you scrunch. I usually add three dollops of product to my hair. Use your fingers to smooth any flyways out.

Step 6:

Wrap your hair in a hair towel and let it sit for 10 minutes. I never let my hair air dry because it leaves my curls fuzzy, undefined, and the wrong kind of poofy!

Step 7:

After 10 minutes, take off the towel and add another handful of Curls Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Jelly I do this because the towel absorbs some of the product and I like my curls to be as defined as possible! Your hair should still have some moisture at this point! Now it’s time to blow dry!

Step 8:

When you are ready to blow dry, scrunch your hair with the diffuser starting at the end of your hair! To avoid damaging your hair, blow-dry on medium heat instead of high! Flip your hair back and forth while you dry to help with volume.

Never blow dry your hair without a diffuser! I have a great travel diffuser for when you are traveling; find it in my Amazon Store.

When your hair is about 80 percent dry, take off the diffuser and flip your hair upside down. Use the blow dryer to hold some air on the roots of your hair. Continue to flip your hair back and forth for the volume.

Step 9:

Spray your curls with a generous amount of hairspray of your choice and then scrunch! I like to use Big Sexy Hair Hairspray to get the most volume! At this point, I let my hair sit while I get dressed so it can cool down after having a lot of heat on it from the blow dryer.

Step 10:

Blow dry your hair one more time without the diffuser, focusing on the roots. The texture of your hair should feel not as soft. At this point, your hair should be 90 percent dry and you should be seeing MAJOR volume in your hair! Spray hairspray in your hair one more time.

Step 11:

Run a pick through your hair for the root volume. Start on the side where your hair is thinnest and backcomb. You don’t want to do it too much or it will be fuzzy! Fun fact, I backcomb my hair every.single.day. To me, it’s like brushing my hair or eating breakfast!

That’s it! You did it! Enjoy your gorgeous curls!
