dining painted buffet before

I know that the idea of me painting this buffet hit some of you straight in the gut.  I got tons of Facebook comments telling me I was “ruining perfectly good wood” and “someone worked hard to build that buffet” and “not all things should be painted”.  God bless it.  Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I couldn’t look at that buffet for.even.one.more.day.  Some of you DIY’ers KNOW that feeling.

And for the record, it wasn’t pretty wood….. it was reddish colored wood. Terrible with my walls and trim.  And it wasn’t an antique, it was 9 years old.  It wasn’t a great piece of workmanship, it was a reproduction piece that came free with our old dining table and I’ve hated it since the day we brought it home.

And so……. I painted it.

Here it is now in allllllllllllllllllllllllll it’s glory.  A painted buffet. It’s sooooooo less red. And soooooooo less busy.  And sooooooooooo much more me. And I no longer twitch when I look at it.  Friends, life is too short to live with ugly furniture.  PAINT IT Y’ALL!!!!

And check it out….. I even gold leafed the sides of the drawers to match the gold painted handles!!!  And match the gold frame on the scripture above it. This painted buffet is now a beauty!

Dining Room Painted Buffet Makeover

I posted this on my Facebook page last night and a ton of people told me they doubted my vision originally, but love it now.  And while that is all fine and dandy, really it only matters if I love it.  And really it only matters if YOU like YOUR things.  Please don’t be afraid to paint something.  And just as importantly, don’t be afraid to NOT paint something if YOU love it either.  THAT’S what matters.

This painted buffet is the first piece of furniture that I am painting in my new online monthly “Paint Finish of the Month” membership which starts TOMORROW.  You can sign up HERE.  It’s ridiculously priced at $27 a month.  Most of us spend that much on coffee!   In this DIY group, I’m giving you a video of me painting something new every month, putting you in a private Facebook group with me and giving you feedback on all your painting projects also.   It’s like a painting school…. ONLINE.  I’d love it if you joined us.  But go quick before we start tomorrow!  The link is HERE.

For those of you who just want the deets on the products….. I used the following that you can order on my affiliate links:

  • Black Bean chalklike paint
  • French Vanilla accents
  • Dead flat varnish topcoat
  • Gold leaf and size on sides
  • Tapered Oval Chalk Paint Brush — these are my FAVE

I’d love to read your comments on my painted buffet!

Happy painting,

Jen

I totally can understand you wanting to repaint that buffet. It looks great and now matches your other décor. Good job. Life is too short to be unhappy about a piece of furniture. It’s an easy fix, so why not????????

I never doubted you…I didn’t care for the original color either. I truly believe to each their own. The new paint job is stunning! Good for you!!
