To no one’s surprise, my Ava thought it was a jungle gym…. so I had to jump on the project before we had a disaster in the garage.
My inspiration was this cute navy desk from Pottery Barn Kids, which sell for a cool $539 (whoa!). I love the color. It says “boy” to me…
So I found a classic spray paint ย in a SATIN sheen (the gloss just looked too cheap). I spray primed it first. (Ok… really I didn’t. But you should !) I did sand, however… I think.
I know you’re wondering why I spray painted it especially when I own a paint company. I didn’t feel like dirtying a roller. And I didn’t want to roll the inside of the drawers. Spraying is much faster!
After 4 cans of Navy spray paint and new handles, it is a keeper! My neighbors (thank you Paula!) had some dining room chairs sitting out for the trash… so I grabbed one. The scale of this chair is much better than the one that came with the desk .
You couldย also consider using Naval chalk-type paint by Heirloom Traditions. Chalk-type paint looks so good on furniture!
So let’s recap:
Many blessings,
Jennifer

Hey! Love the Desk! Where did you get the signs above the desk? I’ve been looking for that kind of thing for my son’s room!
Jen…I Love love love it! It turned out awesome! It is so perfect for that space also! Seriously…that is awesome.
Oh, how wonderful!!! It looks great!
Suzanne
I love it!
Amazing what spray paint can do.
And what else does your neighbor throw away?
LOVE THIS! I love Pottery Barn for inspiration and the occasional tableware accessory, but seriously, my stay-at-home mom budget does not allow for thousands of dollars worth of baby/toddler furniture. I do get wonderful ideas from their catalogs and display rooms!
This turned out awesome!
Love the make-over! Great job.
Blessings,
Marie

You’re a rock star!! Watch out Pottery Barn!!
Wow! Great job! Your banner is gorgeous! I love it!
I’d have used spray paint too! Love the color.
I think it looks GREAT! I think spray paint gives furniture a better finish than a brush (sorry, I’m just sayin’). It looks smoother and better in the end. The fact that it’s TONS easier kinda helps pull my vote to a spray can, though!
what a great find! love it!
u amaze me. ๐
I just came across your blog from the Thrifty Decor Chicks. I love it! And I love your son’s room…where did you snag those great old game signs?
I LOVE Trash to Treasure we designs! This is awesome. It just shows that creativity trumps Pottery Barn every time!
Looks great! My son has an old desk (was actually my husband’s when he was young) that desperately needs a makeover. Maybe I should copy you and paint it navy! Thanks for the inspiration. ๐
Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for stopping by my blog so I could discover yours. I know I will find lots of great ideas and tips following you. Cathy
I know what you mean with the paint color (SW toasty) I’m going to change it out of my living room because its not what I wanted. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and please don’t be a stranger.

Hello! Stopping over from Kimba’s. That turned out great! I love the posters above the desk, too.
Great job! Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting. I’ll check on the “Beachglass” by Sherwin Williams color for you. It was in my paint wheel that I used last fall, I just need to track that wheel down and check! I’ll let you know when I do!
Beautiful job. My son has those same vintage sports things in his room too. Everything looks great.
LOVE it! the art posters are very cool as well, where’d ya get those?
and your comment about prime/sand …. (snicker)
Well done!
The desk looks great! I’ve used a similar blue for the furniture in my boys’ room and I just love it. Very suited for growing boys!
Wow! Great transformation!
Oh, I love this newly done desk! Great vision on that.
It looks fantastic, amazing job! I also love the artwork in that room.
Great make-over. Love your blog.
Cool. Love the color. I see some navy (is that the name of the color?) spray paint in my future … ๐
Love the made over desk! Well done!

I love, love , love the desk. I just plain love painted furniture. You know I keep seeing all these gorgeous rooms that mom’s have put together for their kiddos and it gives me this nagging question: Do the kids care at all what goes into their rooms? I’m in the process of doing my 8 year old son’s room (9 this summer)and he has such definite (and ever changing) tastes that it can be very frustrating. He HATES painted furniture. He likes it stained. Which is totally a pain in the keister if you’re not buying it new. We aren’t. So, how do you settle decorating differences with your kids – or is it even an issue? I want my son to have a say in his room within certain boundaries, but I still want it to look decent.
Thanks. I enjoyed your post.
Pam
I love your transformation. I like how you were “inspired” by another piece but didn’t feel like you had to replicate it exactly. That is such a wonderful example of going for the “feel” and spirit of the inspiration piece. You accomplished it!! I gave you an award on my blog!! Blessings!
It turned out great! I have a desk that I am wanting to redo but I wasn’t sure if I should roll it or spray paint.
Dontcha just love getting PB looks for less?! ๐
Priceless is right! You got a great deal on the desk and your re-do was great…GOOD JOB!
I do love what you did with that desk. Mine was more work like you said, but yours is very clean looking! We have another desk in my son’s room that needs something and that blue is very nice……

Love it! Maybe my daughter’s pink and white desk will one day be my younger son’s navy blue desk. Love your blog.
It looks great! I also love the sports pictures behind the desk. Great post!
