One way to fill your children’s emotional tank

So I totally stole this idea from someone else’s blog…..and yet I don’t remember who. If you were the inventor of this sweet idea….kudos to you! I thought it was brilliant enough to copy!

Hobby Lobby (or “Hobbily Lobbily” as Ava calls it) has these paper mache mailboxes for $2.99 each. I spray painted one of them for each of my boy’s rooms…

And I stick little notes in them whenever I “spy” them doing something thoughtful, kind, loving, etc. Or…just to tell them I love them.

I am shocked at how much my 6 & 8 year old BOYS love this. They check their “mailboxes” all the time for notes from mom.

It reminded me that we all have “emotional tanks” that need filled with praise on occasion….even my kiddos.

Thanks for sharing this idea with us! My 7 yr old has been asking for a mailbox for his room for about a little while now but I haven’t been able to find them anywhere around here. I’ll have to check their website…thanks for the resource.

Also…it is very true that our kids need their tanks filled too. I am working on making some cute little postcards to use for encouraging notes for my kiddos. He squeals with delight anytime he gets mail. ๐Ÿ™‚

P.S.–I have some big news…My blog has a new name and a new look. Would love to hear what you think of it…stop by sometime if you have the chance.

I did something like this for Valentine’s Day…

But I think it is great to do it year round! Anything to strengthen those relationships makes it easier to deal with the tough times. You’ll have to let us know if it’s something you can keep going long term.

What a great idea! My kids would love this so much. We all need those words of affirmation, don’t we?

Speaking of kind words, I love your blog. You are funny, witty, extremely talented, and generous to share all that you do. So thanks, blog friend. ๐Ÿ™‚

So darling. I think that would be a great way to start a new home with our new move. I think parents need one too though. ๐Ÿ™‚

Okay, I feel like a horrible mother for not thinking of doing this sort of thing all on my own. I am all over it. Thank you, Jen, and to the person who inspired you!

My girlfriend’s a 2nd grade teacher and she uses a book ‘How Full is Your Bucket?’ as a teaching tool. She uses mini buckets and the kids can leave each other sweet notes and she can leave teacher praise…I was definitely reminded of it with your cute mailboxes!

I am going to do this. What a wonderful thing. I feel like I am always asking them to clean up, do chores, etc. This would be a wonderful way to let them know just how wonderful they are, too. And, bonus, I can coordinate it to their rooms!
